Playa Flamenca - Costa Blanca - Spain
Playa Flamenca Costa Blanca Spain - Standing on the ever popular Orihuela Costa coastline on the southern Costa Blanca, Spain, the pretty seaside resort of Playa Flamenca attracts many thousands of holidaymakers each year, all eager to enjoy the wonderful weather conditions, the fine sandy beaches and the excellent facilities.
Boasting a couple of splendid sandy beaches (with easy access to others nearby), a pretty seafront promenade area and some great bars and restaurants (with good evening entertainment), Playa Flamenca is a perfect choice for a family getaway, a short weekend break, or even for a holiday home (if you have some spare cash!).
The area developed as a resort during the nineteen seventies when several Flemish ivestors decided that this stretch of relatively barren coastline had the potential to be something much better.
Soon afterwards, several other splendid resorts sprung up around Playa Flamenca as this previously unspoilt coastline turned it into the bustling place that it is today, attracting visitors of all nationalities, the Spanish themselves also loving the area. With plenty of sandy beaches and bays all within walking distance of each other or just a hop on a bus if you prefer.
The resort is situated in the middle of what is now a section of very busy coastline known as the Orihuela Costa (it is actually the coastal district for the town of Orihuela some 19km inland), with Punta Prima at its northern end and Mil Palmeras in the south, comprising those resorts plus Dehesa de Campoamor, Cabo Roig, La Zenia and of course Playa Flamenca itself. There are also some large urbanizations (with large numbers of holiday homes) such as Zeniamar, Aguamarina, La Florida, Horizonte, Los Balcones, Dream Hills, Horizonte, La Regia and others. There are also three popular golf courses - Villamartin Golf, Golf Las Ramblas and Real Club de Golf Campoamor.
Playa Flamenca itself is composed mostly of residential urbanizations, with the bulk of them being situated on the inland side of the N332 coast road. There is a small area of houses, villas and apartments on the sea-side of the N332 which includes a small commercial centre with some excellent bars and restaurants, a few shops and the local Post Office (Correos). Also close by is the Mercadona supermarket and the huge Flamenca Beach Commercial Centre where there are 3 levels of shops, bars and restaurants, this is where most holidaymakers head for their evening meal and entertainment. This is the heart of the resort
On a Saturday you might notice a large increase in the number of people wandering around the resort, this is due to the very popular Playa Flamenca Saturday street market which draws in people from all the surrounding areas and is open from around 8am (finishing at ablout 2pm). It is best to get there as early as you can as it can get very busy and very hot! You will find the market by following the crowds or on Calle Nicolas de Bussi (behind the Mercadona supermarket).
Of course one of the main reasons why people head for Playa Flamenca is the wonderful Mediterranean climate it enjoys, comprising over 300 days of sunshine each year, mild, sunny winters, low, almost insignificant rainfall and a healthy atmosphere, making it a truly all year round resort. In fact the Playa Flamenca weather is some of the best in Spain.
Together with this, it is very convenient for 2 airports, with Alicante airport at only 45 minutes driving distance and Murcia (San Javier) even closer at a driving distance of just 25 minutes. The resort is easy to access from both the AP-7 autopista (taking the exit at nearby La Zenia) or the much busier N-332 coastal road. On a map you will find the resort just to the south of Torrevieja.
